Tottenham have completed a new summer deal, agreeing to a one-year loan deal with Bayern Munich for Joao Palhinha, according to Sky Germany.
Palinha joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024 from Fulham for €51 million, but he didn’t get much playing time last season and was completely out of the plans of coach Vincent Kompany for the new season.
With Bayern Munich keen to offload the player’s high salary, and Palhinha himself keen to escape the Allianz Arena bench, Tottenham appeared to be the ideal option for the Portuguese to return to the stadiums where he excelled: the English Premier League.
According to Sky, the 30-year-old Palhinha will join Tottenham on a one-year loan, with a non-obligatory purchase option next summer for €30 million. The London club will also pay the player’s full salary for the duration of the loan.
Palinha will be Tottenham’s fifth summer signing, following the signings of Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale for €5.8 million, Luka Vuskovic from Croatia’s Hajduk FC for €11 million, and Kevin Danso from Lens for €25 million. The biggest signing, Mohammed Kudus, was also signed from West Ham for €63 million, while Matthias Tel’s purchase option was activated for €35 million.
It’s worth noting that the Portuguese starred for Fulham from 2022 until his departure in the summer of 2024. He made 68 Premier League appearances, scoring seven goals and providing one assist.
