Egyptian Football Star Arrested at Cairo Airport

Egyptian police arrested one of Egypt’s most prominent football stars to implement a court ruling against him.

According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Ramadan Sobhi was returning from the Pyramids FC training camp in Turkey when he was arrested at Cairo International Airport to serve his prison sentence.

The reason for Ramadan Sobhi’s arrest is an accusation that he paid someone to take an exam on his behalf at the Abu El-Nomros Tourism and Hotels Institute last May.

Although Ashraf Abdel Aziz, Ramadan Sobhi’s lawyer, denied the incident at the time and stated that he had not been notified of any lawsuit, the case is still ongoing and in its advanced stages, and a preliminary ruling has been issued.

So far, neither the player nor his lawyer, Ashraf Abdel Aziz, have commented on the case, and it is unknown what his fate will be or whether he has been deported to an Egyptian prison to serve his sentence.

Ramadan Sobhi is one of the most prominent stars of Egyptian football. He excelled with Al Ahly and had two spells in England with Hull City and Huddersfield Town, before returning to Pyramids FC in a highly controversial deal five years ago.

Pyramids FC are gearing up for the new season on August 8 with a heated match against newly promoted Wadi Degla, with Ramadan Sobhi’s participation in the match still in doubt due to his current status in the case.
