Real Madrid has not given up hope of signing Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate during the current summer transfer window, and will make a final attempt to convince the Reds to part ways with the French star.
The club is looking to sign a new central defender this summer, following the poor performances of Antonio Rudiger and Raúl Asensio at the Club World Cup, and the many doubts about Eder Militao’s ability to return to form after his recent serious injury.
According to AS, Liverpool is still keen on Konate, and the English club is planning to offer him a significant contract renewal in the coming period to dissuade him from leaving for free next summer.
Konate has not yet made a decision, although the most likely scenario is a move to Real Madrid. The club’s plan is to sign him at the “last minute.”
Sources close to Real Madrid say that Florentino Pérez’s administration is planning to send a formal offer to Liverpool for Konate in the final days of the current summer transfer window. If the player agrees to leave, this will put pressure on the English club’s management, which could lead to an immediate sale.
Liverpool generally fears losing Konate for free next summer, as happened with Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer. However, they are not prepared to accept a significant financial concession to achieve this. Real Madrid only wants to pay a maximum of €25 million, while the Reds want at least €50 million for the sale.
