Viktor Gyökeres has decided to continue pressuring Sporting Lisbon to allow him to leave this summer, opting for a “rebellion” against the Portuguese club in the hope that this will ease negotiations between them and Arsenal.
Arsenal completed the agreement with Gyökeres on personal terms last week, but negotiations between the English club and Sporting Lisbon are severely hampered by the Portuguese club’s insistence on receiving €75 million plus variables.
Sporting Lisbon’s pre-season is scheduled to begin on Friday evening, but Gyökeres has clearly decided that he will not participate in it and will not wear the Portuguese giants’ shirt again.
Portuguese media reported that Gyökeres would report to camp on Saturday, but journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Swedish international has no intention of reporting to the club, not Saturday, Sunday, or any other day. He sent a message to the Lisbon management stating that his only desire is to leave for Arsenal immediately.
Arsenal hopes to close the deal for a maximum of €65-70 million, just as the Lisbon management had agreed with Gyökeres before the end of the season. However, the Sporting president is determined to secure even more money, which has led to personal problems between him, the player, and his agent. These problems have been ongoing since May and continue to this day.
The 27-year-old informed Sporting Lisbon management five days ago that he wants to move to Arsenal, and he and his agent are continuing to push for a deal as quickly as possible.
