Sport reported that a Barcelona star has rejected a major offer from the Premier League for the second time, preferring to continue with Barça even if he has to sit on the bench.
This star is Ferran Torres, who has found himself the subject of intense interest from Aston Villa, to the point that the English club has made two offers for him so far.
Aston Villa offered Barcelona £35 million to buy Torres, but the player refused, immediately closing the door on negotiations between the two clubs.
The club returned with a new offer, reportedly worth £50 million, and although Barcelona might welcome a sale, Torres rejects the idea in both form and substance.
The 25-year-old believes staying at Barcelona is his best option at the moment, and he has great confidence in coach Hansi Flick, so he doesn’t mind playing as a backup to Robert Lewandowski.
Due to the Spanish international’s uncompromising stance, negotiations ended before they even began and were never formalized between the various parties.
Torres’ contract with Barcelona still runs until the summer of 2027, and it’s not unlikely that Joan Laporta’s management will extend his contract and offer him a salary increase, especially if he continues his impressive commitment.
It’s worth noting that Torres played 45 matches for Barcelona in all competitions last season, scoring 19 goals and providing two assists.
