Viktor Gyökeres is close to joining Arsenal, according to international media reports, but there are obstacles to completing the deal: a mere €5 million.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal has agreed on personal terms with the Swedish international, and the player’s first and only desire is to move to the London club.
Meanwhile, Portuguese newspaper Record revealed that Arsenal has begun negotiations with Sporting Lisbon. These negotiations are extremely complicated so far, but a breakthrough is expected soon.
The Gunners submitted an offer of €65 million as a fixed price and another €15 million in variables to sign Gyökeres, but the offer was not accepted by the Portuguese club’s management.
Sporting Lisbon wants a fixed price of €70 million for the deal, meaning that only €5 million is the difference between Arsenal’s offer and the Portuguese club’s desires.
Although things seem complicated, Arsenal is currently pushing to close the deal in the next few days, bringing an end to the ongoing conflict between Gyökeres and the Lisbon management since the beginning of this summer.
The 23-year-old player will not return to Sporting Lisbon’s pre-season training, in an attempt to increase pressure on the club’s management to accept Arsenal’s offer.
It’s worth noting that Arsenal’s agreement with Gyökeres continues its impressive summer transfer window, having already signed Kepa from Chelsea and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Now, they are on the verge of signing Mosquera from Valencia, the second-highest scorer in Europe.
