Esperance achieved an important 1-0 victory over Los Angeles FC in the second round of the group stage of the 2025 Club World Cup.
The only goal of the match came from Algerian star Youssef Belaili, who fired a superb low shot through Hugo Lloris’s legs in the 70th minute.
With Belaili’s brilliant goal, Arabs finally secured their first victory in the Club World Cup, after Al Ahly, Al Ain, Al Hilal, and Wydad Casablanca had failed to achieve it so far.
Esperance had lost their first match against Flamengo 2-0, and with the victory over Los Angeles, the “Makshakha” has a chance to advance to the round of 16.

The Brazilian club defeated Chelsea, leaving Esperance with three points, the same as Chelsea, ahead of the final match in the group, which will be held next Wednesday morning.
Esperance needs to pull off a surprise and defeat the Blues by any score to advance to the round of 16. Goal difference gives the English club a chance to advance if its match against Bab Souika ends in a draw.
It’s worth noting that a victory for Esperance would guarantee them $2 million, a sum that would undoubtedly help the Tunisian club resolve its significant financial crises over the past two years.
