Trent Alexander-Arnold sparked outrage among Liverpool fans after his comments in which he downplayed the English club in favor of his new club, Real Madrid.
Arnold joined Los Blancos after more than 15 years as a Liverpool player, but his initial comments were surprising and somewhat disrespectful to the Reds.
The English right-back said, “The quality of players here is fantastic, and the ball moves very quickly. Obviously, it’s completely different from what I’m used to, in terms of the players and the stars.”
He added, “I can’t describe how welcome I felt here. The players worked hard, talked to me, and made me feel comfortable.”
He continued, “The players tend to speak English to me, but the tactical conversations and meetings are all in Spanish, so it takes some getting used to. I know basic Spanish and I’ll soon master it.”
He concluded, “I’m enjoying this change in my career and at the club in general. I’m happy to be a part of it.”
Arnold will make his Real Madrid debut in the 2025 Club World Cup when they face Al-Hilal on Wednesday at Hard Rock Stadium.
