Robert Lewandowski announced his retirement from international football with the Polish national team due to a dispute with coach Michal Probs, which has become more heated than ever in recent days.
Probs had decided to strip Lewandowski of the captaincy and give it to Peter Zielinski, which greatly angered and irritated the Barcelona star.
Lewandowski posted on his official accounts announcing that he would not play for Poland again as long as Probs was the national team coach.
At the same time, the 37-year-old did not close the door on a return to the Polish national team, stressing that he hopes to represent his country again, but he made that conditional on Probs’s dismissal.
Probs took over as Poland coach in 2023, leading his country to Euro 2024, where they were eliminated in the group stage without a win.
Lewandowski is absent from Poland’s training camp during the current international break after being stripped of the captaincy. The Whites faced Moldova in a friendly and are preparing for a crucial match against Finland in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Lewandowski began his international career in 2008 and has made 158 appearances for the Polish national team, scoring 85 goals.
