Speculation has been rife about Ruben Amorim’s future as Manchester United manager following the Red Devils’ Europa League loss to Tottenham.
The Portuguese coach spoke to the media after the match, confirming that he will not resign and that he believes he can turn things around next season at Old Trafford.
According to The Guardian, Manchester United’s board has decided to keep Amorim and give him a second chance next season.
Amorim took over as United manager last November, succeeding Erik ten Hag, but he has failed miserably domestically, with the team currently in 15th place in its worst season since the dawn of time.
However, reaching the Europa League final was enough for United’s board to decide to keep Amorim, especially given the belief that the coach has been unfairly treated due to the team’s positioning above him and the lack of signings in the winter transfer window.
At the same time, no major revolution is expected at Manchester United this summer, as the club does not have the funds to make many signings unless a number of players are sold.
The Guardian also noted that the coach will only receive £100 million in transfer budget this summer, given his failure to qualify for the Champions League and the club’s worsening financial situation.
