The 2025-26 Champions League will be historic for English clubs, as six Premier League clubs have been confirmed to participate in the competition, which begins next September.
With the new Champions League format that began this season, UEFA now awards an additional place to two countries based on the league rankings, taking into account the clubs’ achievements in various continental competitions.
England has already earned an additional place
The Premier League has already earned an additional place since Arsenal advanced to the Champions League semi-finals this season.
As a result, the fifth-placed team in the Premier League will automatically qualify for the Champions League next season.
It used to be that the top four teams qualified for the Champions League, but now, thanks to the English teams’ success in various European competitions this season, the fifth-placed team will also qualify, as was the case in Germany and Italy last season.
England Wins Sixth Champions League Place
At the same time, another English club has been confirmed for next season’s Champions League, outside of the Premier League standings.
The Europa League winners are Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, who have qualified for the final, which will be held at the San Mamés Stadium in the Basque Country, Spain.
Although both United and Tottenham’s domestic seasons have been dismal, and both are languishing in the bottom three, the rule remains unchanged: winning the Europa League qualifies the winner directly for the Champions League.
Teams Qualified from the Premier League to the Champions League
Liverpool secured Champions League qualification by winning the Premier League title, and the battle for the remaining vacant places is fierce among several clubs.
Arsenal is second in the Premier League, followed by Manchester City, Newcastle, and Chelsea, while Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are in sixth and seventh places.
Anything is possible due to the small point difference. Aston Villa, in seventh place, has 60 points, compared to 64 points for City, in third place. Everything is possible depending on what happens in the last three rounds.
In addition to the top five, the winner between Manchester City and Tottenham will also qualify for the Champions League.
