Reports: Marco Rose Close to Coaching Al Ahly

Egyptian media outlets are reporting that Marco Rose is close to taking over as coach of Al Ahly, succeeding Swiss coach Marcel Koller, after negotiations between the two parties escalated sharply in the past few hours.

Al Ahly is looking for a world-class coach to lead the Red Castle during the 2025 Club World Cup following Koller’s dismissal. His name has been linked to several prominent coaches, including Rose, Slavan Bilic, and Luis Castro.

According to recent reports, Rose has agreed to coach Al Ahly, but negotiations are currently underway regarding two conditions to finalize the details and ensure the German coach arrives in Cairo to lead the Red Devils.

The first condition is bonuses, as Rose’s earnings for each title won with Al Ahly have not yet been agreed upon. The second condition is the number of assistants, as the former Leipzig coach wants to bring his entire team, which would increase the cost of the contract.

Rose is reportedly seeking an annual salary of $4 million (EGP 200 million), making him the undisputed highest-paid player in Egyptian football history.

Among Rose’s demands is a release clause allowing him to leave Al Ahly at specific times, specifically if he has the opportunity to return and work for a top German club.

It’s worth noting that Rose began his career with Salzburg, where he led them to two league and cup titles. He then went on to coach Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund, and his most recent experience was with Leipzig, with whom he won the German Super Cup and the German Cup.
