La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez will miss Tuesday’s second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona due to injury.
The Argentine star left the first leg at the Estadio Olimpico Luis Companys with a muscle injury that appeared serious from the outset. Coach Simone Inzaghi confirmed after the match that things did not look reassuring.
According to the Italian newspaper, Lautaro underwent tests on Thursday and is scheduled to undergo further tests on Friday to determine the final diagnosis of his injury and the length of his absence.
In principle, the Inter captain needs at least two weeks of rest, meaning his chances of returning to the pitch against Barcelona are slim.
Lautaro’s injury comes at a critical time for Inter, which is seeking to reach the Champions League final and is in a fierce competition for the Serie A title, as it sits in second place, three points behind Napoli.
The 27-year-old has made 47 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 21 goals and providing six assists. He has also scored eight goals in 12 Champions League appearances this season.
It should be noted that Inter will also lose Benjamin Pavard against Barcelona due to a sprained ankle he sustained last week against Roma.
