Al-Ahly Decides to Dismiss Marcel Koller After African Exit

Egyptian media outlets agreed that the match against Mamelodi Sundowns was Marcel Koller’s final as Al-Ahly coach.

The Red Devils drew 1-1 with Sundowns at Cairo International Stadium in the second leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final, exiting the competition they had won for the past two years.

Due to Al-Ahly’s poor performance over the past three months, Koller’s future was in doubt, but Mahmoud El-Khatib’s management supported his continued presence until the 2025 Club World Cup.

According to recent reports, the African exit and the poor performance against Sundowns were enough to prompt the final decision to dismiss the Swiss coach immediately.

The dismissal will likely target sporting director Mohamed Ramadan and the entire technical staff, with the exception of Mohamed Shawky.

Al-Ahly is considering appointing a foreign coach to examine the team’s strengths less than two months before the Club World Cup, hoping to achieve a miracle and win the Egyptian Premier League title.

It is noteworthy that Al-Ahly fans threw water bottles at Koller as he left the field, expressing their anger at the coach.
