Official: Liverpool Announces Van Dijk Contract Extension

Liverpool officially announced on Thursday a two-year contract extension for Virgil van Dijk, extending his contract until the summer of 2027.

The Dutch international’s contract with the Reds was due to expire at the end of this season, and over the past few months, there had been significant disagreements between the two parties over the terms of the renewal.

Ultimately, after a barrage of rumors, the two sides reached an agreement, just as Mohamed Salah did two weeks ago.

The 33-year-old spoke about the renewal, saying, “It was always my desire to stay at Liverpool. There was no doubt in my mind that this was the right place for me and my family. I am part of Liverpool.”

He added, “Someone recently described me as an adopted son of Liverpool – and I’m very proud of that. It’s a great feeling. I’m very happy to be here for two more years.”

It’s worth noting that Van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018 for a then-record £75 million and led the Reds to numerous achievements, including winning the Premier League and Champions League.
