Manchester United has entered the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Fermín López, as the English club actively searches for offensive reinforcements ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.
According to Daily Mail, the Spanish international has long been admired by officials at Old Trafford, amidst competing interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea for his services.
Fermín’s valuation is estimated at around £70 million, according to the paper, which noted that United’s financial constraints could complicate any potential move, given the club’s pressing need to strengthen multiple positions across the squad.
Manager Michael Carrick is exploring options to bolster his side’s goalscoring power following a leg injury to Benjamin Šeško, with concerns that the Slovenian striker could remain sidelined until at least January, compounding United’s attacking troubles.
Fermín has scored five goals for Barcelona so far this season, continuing his impressive attacking output after concluding the 2025–2026 campaign with 13 goals and 17 assists in over 3,000 minutes of action, according to official Catalan club metrics.
The 23-year-old is under contract with Barcelona through June 2031, having signed a long-term extension last February, reinforcing the club’s commitment to one of La Masia’s standout graduates in their current squad.
Fermín joined Barcelona’s youth academy in 2016 before completing a successful loan spell at Linares during the 2022–2023 season, where he recorded 12 goals and four assists. Upon his return, he convinced then-manager Xavi Hernández to hand him his first-team breakthrough, ending his debut senior season with 11 goals.
On the international stage, Fermín was part of Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 winning squad before playing a starring role in securing gold at the Paris Olympics by scoring six goals. However, he missed Spain’s 2026 World Cup victory due to a foot injury sustained with Barcelona near the end of last season.
