According to Metro, the Prime Minister congratulated the England captain on his victory, with Downing Street describing his achievement as exceptional and commending his role as a role model for young footballers across the country.

When asked about the possibility of him receiving a knighthood, a government spokesperson stated: “I will not speculate on honors procedures,” while reaffirming that Kane has contributed immensely to English football, without officially announcing a nomination or decision regarding the honor.

A knighthood represents one of the highest honors in the British honors system, awarded in recognition of outstanding and impactful contributions in various fields, including sports, particularly when linked to sustained national achievements and dedication.

The honor allows the recipient to use the title “Sir” before their name, meaning the England captain would be styled as “Sir Harry Kane” should he be knighted—a recognition distinct from any accolades earned on the pitch.

Nominations undergo review by independent, specialized committees before recommendations are submitted to the Prime Minister and subsequently to the Monarch, who confers the honor; thus, winning the Ballon d’Or does not automatically lead to receiving a knighthood.

Kane previously received an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2019 New Year Honours list, collecting the award from Prince William in March of that year after leading England to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals in Russia and winning the Golden Boot.

This renewed debate follows a prolific season in which Kane bagged 73 goals for club and country, culminating in his first Ballon d’Or title and adding another milestone to a career that has established him as one of the greatest goalscorers in the history of English football.
