Real Madrid continue to monitor Erling Haaland’s situation at Manchester City, closely tracking the outcome of the English club’s financial case, though this interest has not yet translated into a formal offer or direct negotiations to sign the Norwegian striker.
According to a report by Tribuna, the Spanish giants are keeping a close eye on developments, benefiting from a good relationship with Haaland’s family and representatives. However, any concrete move remains contingent on what unfolds in Manchester over the coming months.
Uncertainty has grown after an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of 114 out of 115 financial breaches. The club has lodged an appeal, maintaining its complete innocence, meaning potential sanctions are not yet final.
If the ruling is upheld following the appeal and severe sporting penalties are imposed, several top clubs could reconsider their stance on City’s star players—though this does not imply Haaland would automatically become available or accessible at a reduced price.
The Premier League champions retain an exceptionally strong bargaining position, having extended their star forward’s contract until the summer of 2034. Furthermore, reports indicate that the contract contains no clause allowing an automatic departure should the club suffer relegation to a lower division.
Real Madrid’s interest dates back to Haaland’s standout spells at Borussia Dortmund prior to his move to City in the summer of 2022. Since then, the striker has cemented his elite status by scoring 36 goals in his debut Premier League season and leading the club to a historic treble.
The summer of 2026 saw another chapter of speculation when former Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme claimed to have a path toward signing the player. However, Haaland’s family and representatives swiftly denied any agreement, while Manchester City threatened legal action.
For now, the saga remains strictly at the monitoring stage: Real Madrid are interested and prepared to explore the opportunity if the stance of the player or his club changes, but the 2034 contract, City’s firm stance, and the absence of a formal proposal render any talk of an imminent deal premature.
