Liverpool have received a fresh injury concern after French defender Jérémy Jacquet suffered an injury and was ruled out of the clash against Belgium at the end of the international break, prior to his return to England for scans to determine his return timeline.
Contrary to initial descriptions suggesting an adductor injury, the diagnosis issued from the France camp confirmed that Jacquet experienced a strain in his left hamstring, having been left out of the matchday squad as a precautionary measure.
Neither the French Football Federation nor Liverpool have specified an official duration for the player’s absence, making any current timeline estimates premature. The final decision will depend on the results of tests conducted at the Reds’ training ground and the severity revealed by medical imaging.
The concern comes amid Liverpool’s congested schedule, with nine matches awaiting them over a 29-day period across the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and other competitions—a period in which Jacquet has rapidly established himself as a key starter in central defense alongside Virgil van Dijk.
The 21-year-old has featured in 7 matches for Liverpool this season, accumulating 551 minutes. He started all of the team’s first five Premier League fixtures, completed a full match in the Champions League, and made an appearance in the League Cup. While he has yet to record a goal or assist, his value has shone through his composure on the ball, passing accuracy, and ability to defend in a high line.
Liverpool had secured Jacquet’s signing from Rennes for a fee reported at around £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons following competition from several European clubs, viewing him as a long-term investment in their backline following the departure of Ibrahima Konaté.
On the international stage, Jacquet made an impressive start with France, helping Les Bleus keep a clean sheet against Belgium on his debut, winning six out of seven duels, and completing 92% of his passes, before retaining his spot in a 1-1 draw against Italy.
Zinedine Zidane praised the young defender’s performance after his international debut, stating: “He was very good and brave; he wasn’t afraid to step up far out of his zone and was strong in his duels.” The injury comes at a time when Jacquet was solidifying his place for both club and country, while Liverpool await further scans to gauge the extent of the loss.
