Antonio Conte has outlined the specific criteria for the next club he wishes to manage, placing history, high pressure, and a drive to restore past glory at the top of his conditions for a return to coaching.
The Italian manager’s words come at a time when his name has been linked with Manchester United—amid growing pressure on Michael Carrick following a sluggish start to the season—as well as being tipped as a candidate for Juventus and AC Milan.
“There are many clubs that have lost, in one way or another, a piece of their connection to their history,” Conte said.
He added: “I would like to go to one of those clubs, dust off that history, and make it shine once again.”
He continued: “I am talking about clubs where pressure exists, where you know full well that you don’t go just to participate, but to compete.”
He proceeded: “Even if there is only a 1% chance of success, that percentage must be capable of turning into 70, 80, or even 100%—and it all depends on how the message is conveyed.”
He concluded: “The manager is crucial because he delivers that message to the players day in and day out”—words that fully align with Conte’s established reputation as a tactician who demands clear authority within any project.
Italian reports have placed him among the candidates to succeed Carrick, even hinting at preliminary contacts with his representatives. However, other sources close to Manchester United have denied any official negotiations to date, leaving the connection strictly within the realm of speculation.
Conte has been available since leaving Napoli in May 2026 after leading the club back to the Serie A title. His managerial resume includes league trophies with Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan, along with previous Premier League experience at Tottenham.
