Renewed doubts have surfaced regarding the relationship between Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé, after a French report revealed that tension between the national team stars remains unresolved, contrary to the France captain’s public assurances.
Mbappé had previously insisted during an interview with L’Équipe that he had spoken directly with his international teammate prior to the training camp, stating: “There is no tension between us.”
However, new details have surprised Dembélé’s camp, who, according to the report, confirmed that no direct conversation took place between the players before joining up with the French national team.
The sole communication consisted of a single message sent by Mbappé to the Paris Saint-Germain forward, which remained unanswered—indicating that the underlying dispute has yet to be settled.
The friction originated following Mbappé’s comments regarding the Ballon d’Or race, where he described himself as having always been “the chosen one.” Dembélé later countered: “I was never considered the chosen one, but I worked immensely hard.”
The exchange carried added sensitivity given that Dembélé holds the 2025 Ballon d’Or title, while Mbappé continues to position himself as a top contender for the upcoming award ceremony, scheduled to take place in London on October 26.
With neither player issuing a fresh public response, reports of ongoing friction remain attributed to sources close to Dembélé, contrasting sharply with Mbappé’s earlier assertions that their relationship remains normal.
