Mohamed Nagy “Gedo,” assistant manager of Pyramids FC, has announced the termination of the club’s relationship with Ramadan Sobhi, following the Swiss Federal Supreme Court’s rejection of the player’s appeal against a four-year suspension for violating anti-doping regulations.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) originally issued the four-year ban in November 2025 over a sample tampering violation. Sobhi subsequently appealed to the Swiss Supreme Court, which dismissed the challenge and upheld the legal validity of the ruling.
The proceedings began with a provisional suspension in May 2024, which was briefly lifted by the Egyptian Anti-Doping Appeals Committee in September of the same year before the case transitioned to international sports tribunal proceedings, culminating in the four-year sanction.
“Following Ramadan’s four-year suspension, terminating his contract is the natural outcome,” Gedo stated, explaining that the club had been awaiting a favorable appeal outcome that would have permitted the player to resume training and match action in January.
The suspension extends beyond match play, prohibiting Sobhi from training at official sporting facilities or engaging in technical or administrative activities throughout the four-year duration, rendering his continued inclusion on Pyramids’ roster untenable.
Sobhi joined Pyramids in September 2020 from Al Ahly. He made 159 official appearances for the club across all competitions, registering 37 goals and 31 assists, according to updated statistics following the appeal’s dismissal.
During his spell with Pyramids, the winger won the 2024 Egypt Cup, the 2025 UEFA-CAF/Intercontinental continental honours, and the 2025 CAF Champions League.
Sobhi broke into Al Ahly’s first team at age 17 before completing spells in England with Stoke City and Huddersfield Town. His career honors include multiple Egyptian Premier League titles, the Egyptian Super Cup, the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup, and the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
