Mikel Arteta’s side failed to alter the complexion of the match after the restart, conceding a third goal to Chema Andrés in the 57th minute as Brighton secured the victory and handed the defending champions their first setback following four consecutive wins.
Arsenal remain on 12 points, temporarily dropping to second place behind Manchester City on goal difference, with City holding a game in hand. Brighton climbed to third position after lifting their total to 10 points.
The result highlighted Arsenal’s defensive vulnerabilities during the encounter, as the team conceded three goals in 90 minutes after allowing just one goal across their opening four league fixtures. The performance mirrored Brighton’s famous 3–0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in May 2023.
Brighton continued their strong start to the campaign, collecting 10 points from five matches via three wins, one draw, and one defeat. With 16 goals scored, they stand as the league’s top-scoring attack through the end of the match, while conceding five goals.
Arsenal will use the international break to regroup before hosting Leeds United on October 10, followed by a visit to Nottingham Forest on October 18, a home fixture against Everton on October 24, and an away trip to face Liverpool in early November.
The 3–0 loss presents Arteta with his first significant test of the season, as a perfect start quickly gave way to a heavy defeat that cost Arsenal top spot, while Brighton reinforced that their attacking output is no coincidence.
