Zamalek crushes Saudi Al-Ahli and is crowned champion of the Dubai Challenge Cup

Zamalek succeeded in reconciling with its fans over their mediocre performance in friendly matches, by defeating Saudi Al-Ahli 3-0 in the 2024 Dubai Challenge Cup final.

The White Knight succeeded in progressing to the final after defeating Moroccan Raja on penalties 4-2 following a 2-2 draw in regular time.

Zamalek took the lead through its captain Mahmoud Abdel Razek Shikabala in the 30th minute, then Youssef Obama scored the second goal in the 49th minute.

The junior Ammar Yasser concluded the hat-trick with a wonderful goal in the 86th minute, in a great moral victory given the potential of Al-Ahli Saudi Arabia, even despite the absence of many players due to the Asian Cup and the African Cup of Nations.

Zamalek played the friendly tournament in Al-Wahda last week, where it lost to Al-Wahda 3-1, then Umm Salal of Qatar 2-0, with a very modest performance.

Voices rose demanding that Zamalek contract with a foreign coach instead of Motamed Gamal, given the extremely humble level the team showed even during the last La Raja match.

It is noteworthy that Egyptian newspapers confirm that Jose Gomez is close to coaching Zamalek, which has only 11 points in the Egyptian League and has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Confederation Cup.
