Xavi apologizes to Barcelona fans and confirms: I am devastated and embarrassed

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez apologized to the Catalan club’s fans for the performance his team showed in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid.

The Catalan coach said in the press conference after El Clásico, “We missed everything today. I’m sorry. We played our worst match this season.”

He also added, “As a Barcelona fan, I am devastated. I am sorry for our fans. Our team should not play a match this way. I am truly embarrassed.”

He continued, “We cannot start a final match in this way. The first ten minutes of the match were disastrous.”

As for his future and whether this defeat might lead to his dismissal, he replied, “I have the confidence of the club, I am confident of that.”

He added, “I am confident in our project. Now we have to work on developing and fighting for the three championships remaining in front of us this season.”

He concluded, “A year ago we lived the best football experience when we beat Madrid in the final. Now we are living the worst football moments. I know that the coming days will be very difficult. We deserve criticism.”

It is noteworthy that Barcelona will play a match in the round of 16 of the King’s Cup next week against Unionista Salamanca, then it will set a big date with Real Betis in the Spanish League.
