“Sport” newspaper revealed that there is almost consensus within the locker room on the name of a specific coach to be Xavi Hernandez’s successor next season.
The Catalan club’s journey to announce the next coach began after Xavi announced that he would step down from his position at the end of the current season due to a decline in results and performance.
According to what was reported by the newspaper close to the Blaugrana, Barcelona players want Luis Enrique, the current Paris Saint-Germain coach, to become Barcelona’s coach next season.
Enrique has a very special relationship with the majority of current Barça players, such as Ferran Torres, Pedri, and Alejandro Balde from his previous work with them in the Spain national team, as well as Iñago Martinez, Uriel Romeu, and others.
The players believe that Enrique understands Barcelona’s environment well, and the football he prefers to present is the Catalan club’s favorite. He is also highly respected at Camp Nou, so he would be the ideal choice to fill the coach’s seat.
But at the same time, contracting with Enrique does not seem easy, as the Spanish coach is still linked until the summer of 2025 with Paris Saint-Germain, which he coached at the beginning of the current season.
For his part, Enrique previously announced that returning to Barcelona as coach is possible, but all factors at the current moment, including the list of names presented to Laporta’s management, confirm that he is out of the calculations.
Enrique coached Barcelona between 2014 and 2017, and during his tenure he succeeded in achieving the historic treble, creating what is known as MSN during his reign, the attacking trio of Messi, Suarez, and Neymar.
