The opening ceremony of the 2023 Asian Cup with a Palestinian flavour (Video)

The opening ceremony of the 2023 Asian Cup witnessed a wonderful gesture by Qatar national team captain Hassan Al-Haydos in support of Palestine in light of the ordeal it has been going through in Gaza in recent months.

The opening ceremony was held at Lusail Stadium in the presence of 40,000 spectators, led by the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, and next to him was the President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino.

After the distinguished performances that were presented at the ceremony, it was Al-Haydos’s turn to take the “Oath of Heroism,” as customs say that the oath should be taken by the leader of the host country.

But Al-Haydos brought in Musab Al-Battat, the captain of the Palestinian national team, and gave him an oath to take, in a great sign of solidarity with the brutal war that Gaza is being subjected to.

At the same time, the concert witnessed the presence of the song Zahrat Al-Mada’in by the famous Lebanese singer Fairouz, which is from the city of Jerusalem, amid a very large audience interaction.

After the end of the ceremony, the 2023 Asian Cup began with an exclusively Arab match between the hosts, Qatar, against the Lebanese national team, in the first round of the group stage.
