The “disaster leader” is close to succeeding Xavi in Barcelona

The German newspaper “Bild” reported that coach Hansi Flick has begun learning the Spanish language in preparation for becoming Barcelona’s coach next season.

The Catalan club is looking for a new coach to succeed Xavi Hernandez, who announced that he will leave at the end of the current season.

Flick’s name was put forward as one of the possible options to coach the Blaugrana, while the idea seems to have been greatly admired by the German coach.

Flick believes that coaching Barcelona is an ideal opportunity for him to return to the forefront again, after his disappointing experience with the German national team in the past two years.

Because of this, Flick began learning Spanish, and it seems that he will be the closest choice to succeed Xavi, given that Joan Laporta prefers the German school in training.

It is noteworthy that Laporta previously tried to sign Flick when he was coach of Bayern Munich, but the coach at the time rejected the idea and preferred to continue with the Bavarian club.

The name of Bologna coach Thiago Motta remains Flick’s biggest competitor, as well as Barcelona’s reserve coach Rafa Marquez, who clearly announced his desire to take over after Xavi.

Flick took over as coach of Bayern Munich after Niko Kovac, and succeeded in achieving the historic six-place finish, before he left at the end of the following season to coach Germany, and was then dismissed last September.

During his trip with the Bavarian club, Flick was the first hero in the 8-2 crushing of Barcelona in the 2020 Champions League quarter-finals in Portugal.
