Syria breaks the group knot and qualifies for the round of 16 in the Asian Cup

The Syrian national team succeeded in reaching the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup after defeating India 1-0 at the end of the group stage matches.

The only goal of the match was scored by the current captain of the Qasioun Eagles, who came on as a substitute in the second half, Omar Khribin, in the 75th minute.

Khribin’s goal was the first goal for the Syrian team in the Qatar 2023 edition, and it also finally broke the group stage knot that had dogged Syria throughout its participation in the continental World Cup.

The Syrian national team qualified for the round of 16 for the first time in its history, by being one of the best 4 teams that ranked third in the groups.

The strange thing is that the Syrian national team only scored one goal in 3 matches, and conceded only one goal, which was against Australia, yet it achieved 4 points and qualified for the round of 16.

Hector Cuper’s squad is waiting in the round of 16 for either the Iraqi national team or the winner of Group C (Iran or the UAE).
