Surprise.. Will the Real Madrid legend take over as coach of Barcelona?

Mundo Deportivo reported that Xabi Alonso has become a candidate to coach Barcelona next season, succeeding Xavi Hernandez.

The Spanish coach, who is currently starring with Bayer Leverkusen, was one of Real Madrid’s legends, but this does not matter much to the Barcelona administration, which is currently searching for the best option to succeed Xavi.

According to the newspaper, the options are now reduced within Barca to Alonso, Luis Enrique and Mikel Arteta, in addition to Roberto De Zerbe and Hansi Flick.

Names such as Porto coach Sergio Conceicao, Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil, or Girona coach Mitchell are completely out of the calculations.

Alonso’s position on taking such a step remains unknown, given that he has always dreamed of coaching the club in which he played for years and was one of its legends, Real Madrid, and not the eternal rival Barcelona.

The Leverkusen coach is also receiving great interest from Liverpool to sign him as a successor to Jurgen Klopp, and the Reds’ choice may logically give preference to Alonso over Barcelona.

It is noteworthy that the current German national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has also become a candidate to coach Barcelona after he hinted that he would not renew his contract with the Germans at the end of Euro 2024.
