Surprise.. Walid Regragui may leave coaching Morocco

Moroccan media reported shocking news that Walid Regragui is considering resigning from coaching the Moroccan national team after a disappointing participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

Morocco bid farewell to CAN in the round of 16 after an unexpected defeat by South Africa with two unanswered goals, continuing the Atlas Lions’ trouble in the competition, which they only achieved once in the 1970s.

According to the latest news, there is a meeting that will decide the future of Regragui, scheduled to be held between the coach and the Royal Moroccan University during the next few days.

The coach who led Morocco to fourth place in the 2022 World Cup is ready to bear full responsibility for the African failure and admitted his failure to achieve the greatest Moroccan goal of achieving the Cup of Nations.

As part of his acceptance of responsibility, he is ready to resign from his position, even though his contract is still extended until the 2026 World Cup.

Perhaps it is illogical for Regragui to leave once he fails in the African Nations, given his distinguished relationship with all Moroccan players, and the fact that he is the best of this generation, but the hypothesis remains valid until he finds something new.

Regragui succeeded coach Vahid Halilhodzic as coach of the Moroccan national team just two months before the start of the 2022 World Cup.

The former Wydad coach supervised the training of the Lions in 22 matches in all tournaments, during which he won 12 matches and lost only 4, 2 of which were against South Africa.
