South Korea snatches a hard-fought draw from Jordan in the Asian Cup

The positive results of the Arab teams continued in the 2023 Asian Cup, this time after Jordan tied with South Korea 2-2 at Al Thumama Stadium.

On Friday, the Iraqi national team defeated the first candidate for the title, the Japanese national team, with a score of 2-1, ensuring its qualification to the round of 16.

Jordan almost followed the example of its neighbor, had it not been for a late own goal from Yazan Abu Al-Arab, with which the Koreans equalized.

South Korea took the lead from a penalty kick through Heung-Min Son, before Jordan equalized with an own goal from Young Woo Park in the 37th minute.

Before the end of the first half, Yazan Al-Naimat was able to give Jordan the advantage with a goal with a wonderful shot, and coach Hussein Amouta’s squad remained steadfast until the last minute of the match.

In general, a draw often guarantees Jordan qualification to the round of 16, in the worst case scenario, over the top 4 teams that finished in third place.

Jordan raised its points tally to 4 points, on par with South Korea, and still holds the lead in the group on goal difference.

Jordan will meet its sister country, Bahrain, at the end of the group matches, and victory guarantees its qualification from the top spot without any calculations.
