Scaloni answers: Will Messi participate in the 2026 World Cup?

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed that he would not be surprised if Lionel Messi participated in the 2026 World Cup despite his advanced age.

Messi will be forty years old when the next World Cup begins, which is scheduled to be held in America, Canada and Mexico.

Although expectations are that Al-Barghout will retire before him, Scaloni kept everything open regarding his death in his statements to the newspaper “Marca”.

The world champion said, “There are many players who played in the World Cup at this age. I don’t think it is a problem.”

He also added, “If this happened in Messi’s case, I would not be surprised. I do not doubt the physical aspect in particular, but the mental level depends on his condition.”

When Scaloni was asked about the future of Argentina without Messi, Angel Di Maria and the big stars, he replied, “I am not worried. We lost Maradona, and Argentina continued and presented other great talents. There is no problem with that.”

It is noteworthy that Messi is supposed to lead the Argentine national team in the upcoming Copa America in America, which will start next June.
