Real Madrid bids farewell to Copa del rey early with a loss to Atletico

Atletico Madrid succeeded in taking revenge on Real Madrid, beating them 4-2 at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the round of 16 of the Spanish King’s Cup.

The Rojiblancos lost to their neighbors in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals last week 5-3, and Real Madrid eliminated them in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey last season.

This time, Atletico succeeded in winning the cup despite the crazy match scenario and resorting to extra time to decide the identity of the quarter-finalist.

Atletico took the lead in the 39th minute through Samuel Leno, then Jan Oblak accidentally put Real Madrid into his own net in the last minute of the first half.

Alvaro Morata took the lead again for Atletico in the 57th minute, then Joselu succeeded in adjusting in the 82nd minute, forcing the two teams to resort to extra time.

During extra time, Antoine Griezmann scored a wonderful goal that gave Atleti the advantage, before Riquelme ended Carlo Ancelotti’s squad’s hopes of returning with a fourth goal in the last minute.

This is the second defeat that Real Madrid has received this season, and the first defeat was also at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, but in the Spanish League, and it happened with a score of 3-1.

Atletico Madrid joined Barcelona in the quarter-finals, the draw for which is scheduled to take place on Friday evening, with its matches to be played on January 24.
