The management of Ittihad reached an agreement with its new coach, and surprisingly, it will not be Julen Lopetegui as previously reported by the media in the past days.

Ittihad sacked coach Nuno Santo after poor results and disagreements with the team's stars, and the search for his successor is still underway at the Radiant Jewel Stadium.

The Spanish newspaper "AS" confirmed that the federation agreed with Marcelo Gallardo, former River Plate coach, to take over the training of the Jeddah Tigers, to be officially announced within the next few hours.

Karim Benzema and Ittihad project played a big role in convincing Gallardo to take the step in his career after being linked with several top clubs in recent years.

At the same time, Gallardo will become the highest paid coach in world football, but the report did not reveal his exact salary.

Gallardo has two weeks to prepare for the start of his journey with Al-Ittihad, which will be against Al-Ittifaq in the Saudi league on November 24.

The 47-year-old spent 8 years in charge of the River plate, during which he won the Argentine league title once, two Copa Lipartadores titles, as well as three Argentine Cup titles, and was an Uruguayan league champion before that with Nacional.
