The Moroccan junior national team was able to defeat the Iranian national team by penalties in the round of 16 of the Under-17 World Cup, which was held in Indonesia.
Morocco qualified for the round of 16 after topping its group, which included the hosts, Indonesia, and Panama, and after achieving two wins and one defeat, which was at the hands of the Latin team.
The "Atlas Lions" clashed with the stubborn Iranian team, which succeeded in scoring the first goal in the 73rd minute through Ismail Gholizadeh.
But in the last minute of the match, Nassim Azzaouzi was able to score the equalizer for Morocco, extending the match to extra time, which also ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the penalty shootout, Morocco succeeded in scoring 4 kicks and Iran missed 2 kicks, so the Arab-African team won and qualified for the quarter-finals.
Morocco awaits a difficult match in the quarter-finals, when it faces the Mali national team, which beat Mexico 5-0, on November 25th.
