The Brazilian national team was defeated by its host, Colombia, by two goals to one, in the match that was held for the fifth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Colombia's double came from Liverpool star Luis Diaz, while Brazil's only goal was scored by Gabriel Martinelli.
This was the second defeat in a row for Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers after the defeat by Uruguay in the last stoppage 2-0, as a result of which the Seleção's score stopped at the seventh point and fell to fifth place in the qualifiers.
The match brought bad news for Real Madrid, as Vinicius Junior left just 27 minutes after the starting whistle due to an injury to his left foot.
According to what was reported by the Brazilian media, Vinicius' injury is muscular, most likely in the hamstrings or thigh.
The 22-year-old spoke to the media after the injury, saying, “I think the injury is in the same place as the previous injury, but it was in the left thigh and I felt pain after that.”
Vinicius' previous injury was also in the thigh last August, and he missed a month because of it. If it is the same new injury, then he will be absent until the beginning of the new year at the very least.
This news is very bad for Real Madrid, as the Brazilian's injury is the second to strike one of Carlo Ancelotti's squad in the ongoing international break, after Eduardo Camavinga.
The Frenchman will also be absent until the end of the year, and Vinicius will join him, in a list that includes Thibaut Courtois, Kepa, Eder Militao, Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouamini and Arda Guler.
Vinicius will undergo many tests during the next few hours to determine an accurate diagnosis of his injury and discover the confirmed duration of his absence from the field.
