Officially…Barcelona’s winter target is moving to another club

West Ham announced the signing of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on loan until the end of the season.

The English international was a big target for Barcelona during the current winter Mercato to compensate for the absence of the injured Gavi.

But due to the registration crisis and the rules of financial fair play, as well as the player’s huge salary, the Blaugrana withdrew from the deal in the past weeks.

Ultimately, after many rumors about his next destination, Phillips settled with West Ham on loan, with an option to buy next summer for 40 million euros.

Phillips joined City in the summer of 2022 from Leeds United, for 49 million euros.

But the 28-year-old was never in Pep Guardiola’s plans, and evidence of that is that he only played 31 matches, during which he scored one goal.
