Mustafa Mohamed responds strongly to Onahi after his mockery of Egypt

It seems that a war of words has begun early in the 2023 African Cup of Nations, after Mostafa Mohamed, the Egyptian national team striker, responded to Moroccan national team player Ezzedine Ounahi’s mockery of the Pharaohs.

Onahi had sparked controversy after statements in which he mocked the way the Egyptian national team won its seven titles in the African Cup of Nations.

The Moroccan player said, “Egypt won the African Cup of Nations 7 times previously, and yet they do not play good football. They take the lead from a free kick, then one of the players on the right and the other on the left falls.”

The response quickly came from Mustafa Mohamed, who was asked about these statements during the press conference for Mozambique’s opening match against Egypt in “Alcan”.

The French Nantes star said, “I did not hear Onahi’s statements, but we achieved 7 championships, so I call on him to do the same as us and win this number of titles.”

The Moroccan national team only succeeded in winning the African Cup once, which was in the 1976 edition, and the best achievement after that was reaching the final of the 2004 edition.

Morocco enters the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire with its best generation in history, after the “Atlas Lions” achieved fourth place in the 2022 World Cup.

It is noteworthy that Egypt excluded Morocco from the previous African Nations and in the 2017 edition.
