The Moroccan national team fell into a draw with the Congo national team, with one goal for each team, for the second round of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Atlas Lions took the lead through Achraf Hakimi in the sixth minute, then Silas equalized for Congo in the 75th minute.
With this result, Morocco’s tally rose to the fourth point, after winning the first round over Tanzania 3-0, compared to two points for Congo.
The Tanzania national team is scheduled to meet its counterpart, the Zambian national team, and if the latter wins, it will share the lead with Morocco by 4 points each.
Morocco will face Zambia at the end of the group matches, and there is a scenario that would involve the Walid Regragui battalion in a difficult confrontation in the round of 16.
The talk here is about Morocco losing or drawing in the final round, and with it qualifying from second place instead of topping the group.
In this case, it is most likely that the Ragragui battalion will face the Egyptian national team, which will play with Cape Verde at the end of the group stage matches on Monday.
Egypt’s victory over Cape Verde will mean occupying second place, and waiting for second place in the group is Morocco, which, if it is the Atlas Lions, will mean a premature final.
Egypt faced Morocco in the 2021 edition in Cameroon in the quarter-finals, where it won 2-1 after resorting to extra time. It played against the Lions in the same round in 2017 and won 1-0 with Kahraba’s famous goal.
