Manchester City kidnaps the “new Messi” from Barcelona, and the announcement is imminent

Sky Sports reported that Manchester City has completed its agreement with River Plate to buy Claudio Echeverri this winter.

Echeverri is nicknamed “the new Messi” after his brilliance with the Argentine junior national team in the 2023 U-17 World Cup, where he scored a “super hat-trick” against Brazil in the quarter-finals.

Barcelona was one of the most interested in obtaining the signature of the 18-year-old player, but the financial crisis led to the Blaugrana withdrawing from the deal.

According to what was reported by Sky Sports and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the agreement between City and River Plate has been reached, as the English club will pay 14.5 million euros to its Argentine counterpart.

Meanwhile, River Plate can earn another 9 million depending on the player’s progress with City.

It is most likely that Echeverri will immediately join City and will not be loaned out this year to River Plate, thus becoming Pep Guardiola’s first winter deal in the hope of maintaining the “historic treble.”
