The Egyptian national team qualified for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations in a strange scenario, after drawing with the Cape Verde national team with a score of 2-2 in the last round of the group stage.
Cape Verde took the lead with a goal scored by Gelson Tavarez in the 44th minute, and in the 50th minute Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet succeeded in equalizing the score for the Nile country.
In the 92nd minute, Mustafa Mohamed was able to score the second goal for the Egyptian national team, and the match referee went to the video technology after doubting the presence of a handball, but later confirmed the validity of the goal.
While the Egyptians thought the mission was over, Brian Silva Teixeira surprised everyone and scored the second goal and the equalizer for the Cape Verdean national team in the last minute.
Fortunately for the Egyptian national team, a strange scenario occurred in the match between Ghana and Mozambique.
The Black Stars led by two goals until the 90th minute, making everyone think that Ghana would qualify whether from second or third place.
But in an unexpected surprise, Mozambique scored two goals in the 90th and 94th minutes, leaving Ghana with only two points, which qualified Egypt even despite the draw with Cape Verde!
Ghana practically lost the chance to qualify from the top three, given that it only had two points.
With Egypt qualifying as runner-up to the group, it will wait for the second-place finisher from the group that includes Morocco, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zambia.
