Barcelona’s decisive response to Mourinho’s appointment as Xavi’s successor

Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, ended the scattered rumors about the possibility of the Catalan club contracting with Jose Mourinho to succeed Xavi Hernandez as coach of the team.

The Spanish media had previously revealed that the Portuguese had offered his services to Barcelona, and there is great pressure from his agent, Jorge Mendes, to make the matter a reality.

Deco was asked about this in an interview with Catalunya Radio, but he denied the truth of what was said, and added, “Mourinho is my friend, but I have not spoken to him for a long time.”

He continued, “We have not spoken with any coach yet, as we have not understood Xavi’s departure.”

When asked about the possibility of using Pep Guardiola, the historic coach of Barcelona, he said, “He is the best coach in Barcelona’s history, but the truth is that we are not talking to any coach now.”

He concluded, “Talking about any coach linked to a contract with another club indicates a lack of morals and a lack of respect for others.”
