Arteta announces Arsenal’s position on signing Karim Benzema

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta announced that his team will not make any deal during the current winter transfer period.

The media had linked Arsenal to signing a new striker, and placed the name of Al-Ittihad striker Karim Benzema at the top of the candidates to join the Gunners.

But in the press conference for the Crystal Palace match scheduled for Saturday in the English Premier League, Arteta ended all controversy surrounding the possibility of Benzema joining the London club.

“We will not make any deal in the remaining days of the Mercato,” Arteta said when asked about the possibility of signing a new striker in January. “I am very happy with the group I currently have.”

Benzema’s name was not the only one on Arsenal’s table, but also Getafe’s top scorer, Borja Mayoral, who scored 14 goals this season in the Spanish League and the King’s Cup.

However, Arteta affirmed his confidence in the duo, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, and stressed that they can lead Arsenal to safety offensively in the remaining half season.

It remains to be noted that Benzema’s future with Al-Ittihad is still ambiguous after the collapse of his relationship with coach Marcelo Gallardo following his delay in joining the team’s camp in Dubai.
