Arab shocks continue… Tunisia bids farewell to AFCON with a disastrous outcome!

The Tunisia national team exited the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the group stage after a goalless draw with South Africa in the last round of the group stage.

This is the first time Tunisia has been eliminated from the groups since the 2013 edition, but back then the record was much better than the disastrous participation in the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire.

The Carthage Eagles failed to win any match, as they drew 0-0 with South Africa, 1-1 with Mali, and lost in the first round to Namibia 1-0.

Over the course of 3 matches, the Tunisian offensive performance was less than weak, as coach Jalal Al-Qadiri’s squad only succeeded in scoring a single goal, and inexplicably did not create any threat in the three matches.

By achieving only two points, Tunisia is at the bottom of the group with two points and exits the Cup of Nations, although victory over South Africa by any result would have guaranteed their qualification without difficulty to the round of 16.

Mali qualified from first place with 5 points, and South Africa with 4 points, in second place on goal difference, ahead of Namibia, which qualified from third place.

Tunisia’s exit is the second Arab shock, after the elimination of the Algerian national team on Tuesday and also bottom of the group.

It is noteworthy that Egypt, Mauritania and Morocco have all guaranteed participation in the round of 16, but the opponent of the first and last has not been determined, while Mauritania will face the Cape Verdean national team.
