Alonso and De Zerbi respond to Liverpool training news, and Klopp comments

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, as well as Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi, responded to the news that linked them to working at Liverpool as successor to Jurgen Klopp.

The German coach surprised everyone by announcing his departure from coaching the Reds at the end of the current season, which began speculation that his successor would either be Alonso or De Zerbi.

The Spanish coach responded first when asked about this in the press conference for the Leverkusen-Borussia Mönchengladbach match, and replied, “Honestly, I don’t have a direct answer to that (laughs).”

He also added, “I am very happy here, that’s for sure. The only thing I’m thinking about now is Bayer Leverkusen. The experience is challenging every moment, and I’m very happy here.”

For his part, De Zerbi commented when he was asked at the conference of the match between Brighton and Sheffield United in the FA Cup, saying, “There is no news about that.”

He continued, “My focus is to finish this season with Brighton. We want to focus only on achieving our goals.”

For his part, Klopp revealed his position on his successor by saying, “I will not say anything. Many people are working here in Liverpool to find the best option for the club.”

He concluded, “The last thing they need is advice from an old man who is leaving the team.”
