A fiery clash for Real Madrid in the round of 16 in the King’s Cup, and an easy draw for Barcelona

The draw for the round of 16 of the Spanish King’s Cup was not kind to Real Madrid, as it dropped the royal club in a fiery derby with neighbor Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

The Merengues qualified for the round of 16 after overcoming Arandina’s hurdle by winning 3-1, the same result that Atletico Madrid won over Lugo in the round of 32.

The match will be an early final, and a repeat of last season’s quarter-final match that brought together the two teams and ended with a 3-1 victory for Real Madrid, in the version in which Carlo Ancelotti’s squad eventually won the crown.

As for Barcelona, the club that has won the most titles, the draw has come in handy, as it will face Unionista Salamanca, one of the Spanish lower division clubs, at the latter’s stadium.

The Round of 16 matches are scheduled to be held between January 16, 17 and 18, after which another draw will be held to determine the quarter-final matches, and these confrontations will be held on January 24.

As for the semi-final matches, they will be held in a home-and-away system as usual, with the first match taking place on February 7 and the second on the 28th of the same month.

The final match will be held on April 6 at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville.
